Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you.
My family moved to Mobridge, SD when I was 14 years. I have always had a desire to help people and loved anything artistic growing up. At 14 I was instrumental in starting a youth center here in Mobridge. In high school I started and operated a successful web design and graphics business but realized that I wanted to do something more ‘hands on’ and still be able to use my abilities and interests as an artist.
In February of 2007 I attended the South Dakota taxidermy convention with the intent of learning more about taxidermy. I began to study as many books as I could get my hands on and did a training/apprenticeship with a fellow taxidermist in South Dakota in January and February of 2008.
I continued doing some mounts for family and friends and word quickly spread and business picked up. In 2009 I entered my first two competition pieces in the taxidermy convention in South Dakota and won:
Best of Category, Whitetail Deer, in the Professional Division.
First Place, Whitetail Deer, in Professional Division.
Second Place, Whitetail Deer, in Professional Division.
Business continued to increase and in 2009 I moved into my current 900 square foot shop and showroom.
In 2010 I entered multiple pieces for competition in both North Dakota and South Dakota. In North Dakota I earned:
Best of Category, Whitetail Deer, in Professional Division.
First Place, Whitetail Deer, in Professional Division.
First Place, Gamehead – Antelope, in Professional Division.
And in South Dakota I earned:
Best of Category, Gamehead – Antelope, in Professional Division.
First place, Gamehead – Antelope, Professional Division
Second Place, Whitetail Deer, in Masters Division
I love what I do and take pride in producing and reproducing the very best, detail oriented work possible. I continue to hone my skills attending specialized training and love reading about both the old and the newer methods being used in the art of taxidermy. I really enjoy trying new things and customizing mounts as well as the challenge that comes with learning about the many new species that our great country has to offer as they are now making their way to my shop.
I married my best friend, Ranea, on August 14 th of 2010 and together with our puppy, Bear, we are busy making our house a home. |
